The horse’s role in human civilization is
complex and
unmistakable.
Although we in the developed world no longer
require
equine labor,
our love of horsemanship shows remarkable resilience.
The
transformation
of the human relationship
with horses
has precedents
with domestic
animals, once practical contributors
to
the household but
today little
more than personal accessories. In
recent years it has
become
common for
frustrated or
overwrought
owners to jettison unwanted
pets
in
pounds, where, companionless and rejected, they often
take
their
last,
lonely breath. Much the same is happening with horses,
which are
neglected and abandoned in similar ways.
If our experience with
domestic animals is any indication of where
we are
heading
(or where
we might already be), it is imperative
that we take a
hard look at the
nature of our connection with
the equine species.
At Windhorse International, we are creating a space where
the interdependence of horse and human is acknowledged and
appreciated. Boarding, core training, and breeding, when pursued mindfully, can be of mutual benefit to man and animal. If purposeful attention is given to
process as well as result,
opportunities arise for mutual respect and appreciation. The reinvigoration of the equine/human connection depends
on clarity
and self-awareness, and we offer physical and mental training to nurture these qualities in both animal and person. Please contact us
about our services or to join the discussion about
how the relationship
between horses and humans can be cultivated for our common
enlightenment.
